The 'Beauty Bits' Competition Win.

Sunday, 21 December 2014

What better way to brighten a day than to come home from work to this little parcel! Quite honestly, I had completely forgot that I had this little delight on its way to me so I can't even explain the joy it brought me on opening it after the week I had had.

Around a month ago, I got some exciting news from the lovely Antoinette that I had won her twitter giveaway- yes, the second prize in the one month! Being the lovely person she is, she had also included an extra gift of one of her mugs featuring her blog name which is unbelievably fancy and well designed, and now also has pride of place on my shelf.

In the parcel was also a beautifully coloured Rimmel lipstick which will be perfect for christmas festivities and the winter months. This Kate Moss range is one of my favourite ranges as it has such good staying power and just the right amount of moisture. The timing of the parcel was amazing for the second present also as my eyebrow pencil in now no bigger than inch long and getting a good shape with that is almost impossible. Lets just say that this piece of makeup and pencil has never been more needed than it was and I'm super excited to try it out.

I couldn't possibly end this post either without telling you how amazing the blog Letters to Antoinette is, and that if you're unfortunate enough to not of encountered it before, you must go and visit it straight away. The fashion and lifestyle posts are perfect reads and the photography alone is definitely enough to draw you in...

Christmas Gift Guide | Her Stocking Fillers.

Saturday, 13 December 2014

I promise I don't have an obsession with pink despite what the main theme in this little stocking filler gift guide shows. When it comes to picking stocking fillers, many stores just put in whatever items they deem perfect for a girl, boy or child. Stocking filler gifts to me are primarily determined by price and in my experience tend to be items under £10. These can be anything from our day to day necessities such as makeup brushes and soaps, to little homely bits such as candles or cups. A majority of the stocking however is always filled with an insane amount of sugary supplies such as chocolate coins, sweets and those good ol' cadbury dreams.

What do you love finding in your stocking on christmas morning?

Christmas Gift Guide | My Picks.

Tuesday, 2 December 2014

I think its done. I actually think that all my christmas shopping is complete and its only the 3rd of december. The wrapping is yet to commence but its sitting waiting to cover the massive stack of gifts I have built up in the corner of my room. This is the exact reason that my blog has been a little regleted recently- because any free time I have had has been spent in the shops or socialising. Any computer time I've been able to grab has also led me to find myself scrolling through countless websites in search of the perfect gifts. Amongst this however, I have also found myself some things (as you do) that I just had to put on my list and now can only dream of receiving.

Over the coming few weeks, I also plan to add to this list and little series but compiling other essential gift guide categories such as a list the males in your life and even any nice  stocking fillers I have come across.

The Batiste x Missguided Competition Win.

Sunday, 23 November 2014

So, many of you will read this post and think, 'why do I never win anything'? I can't blame you, I've done the same on many occasions but somehow my luck changed this week... Even now, I can't quite believe I'm writing this post and telling you about the wonderful prize that I received as a result of winning the recent Batiste x Missguided Competition on Twitter. Getting the initial tweet and the follow up email congratulating me was a little surreal and upon reading what I was to receive, to say I was beyond excited would be an understatement.

A goody bag filled with a crazy amount of Batiste goodies arrived at my door on friday and you can now safely assume that my hair will remain fresh looking and amazing smelling for, honestly, probably years to come. The products already fill my room at home and get taken with me on my weekends away as my hair saviour, but to now have the opportunity to try all of the different scents and versions is exciting, especially the plumping powder and conditioning spray which I've never even seen before! However, the excitement didn't end there and as you may of guessed from the title, the collaboration of brands also meant I received a more than generous voucher of £250 to spend online at Missguided- my ultimate go to site for affordable yet stylish pieces- the dream, right?

I think it was less than 48 hours after receiving my voucher for Missguided and after a lot of deliberation and choosing that I placed my rather large order. Trying to get an item from every department was my initial aim as it was the perfect opportunity to improve and step up my style in every area of my wardrobe, but admittedly I got sucked into my usual habits and picked pieces that I knew id definitely get wear out of. This ranged from pieces such as oversized knits, printed shirts, boxy t-shirts and chunky boots, all of which pretty much sum up my autumn/winter ensembles every year without fail.

A couple of the pieces I picked unfortunately aren't quite me however much I hoped they would be, so I haven't featured them in this post but I shall do a little update post and a much more detailed Missguided haul if I'm able to return them and pick some alternatives over the next couple of weeks.

BEAUTY. Big Hair, Bold Lips.

Tuesday, 18 November 2014

Did you ever think that a beauty haul post could be quite so small? The day has come though and I've actually finished a hair product rather than getting distracted by another half way through. This however means I needed an emergency hair tamer since my Natural World Moisture Oil is now fully drained and can no longer help my mane through its post wash drama, and using Coconut oil more than once a fortnight is leaving me looking far too greasy for anyones liking.

This Umberto Giannini Curl Friends range has a few types of products from the usual shampoos and conditioners to an oil spray and also this styling cream. Styling creams seem to be creeping up recently with great reviews among the curly haired community and this is actually the first I've come across.

Following the instructions provided on the tube, I washed my hair and let it air dry for around 10 mins as it tends to hold a lot of water usually. From this, I separated and detangled it using my fingers as hairbrushes are a big no for curls as they create frizz opposed to a nice hair bounce. With a small almond amount in my hand, I then worked it from the mid lengths to the ends of my hair, paying special attention to the fringe area as this is my driest patch. Once applied and dry, the shine and the more defined curls was definitely evident, and it also felt a lot more workable and soft. With so many benefits in this one product- I now seriously feel I need to try the rest of the range however.

Whoever said I don't need another orangey red lipstick- how wrong you are. This Mayfair Red Lady shade in the Moisture Renew Rimmel range has been calling my name since forever.  The cool tones in this colour look good against my yellow skin undertones and its now become my favourite type of bold lip for both day and night. Honestly, I didn't at all anticipate adding another lipstick to my collection but I needed another product for my Boots 3 for 2 after my styling cream and an eyeliner rebuy and it was just too easy.

The Tips For Longer Legs.

Wednesday, 12 November 2014

Whether it be staring endlessly at the catwalk models pins or dreaming of that summer body we never actually achieved- we can all agree that a pair of long legs would never be turned down if they were getting handed out. Some of you reading this probably already have the perfect pair of legs but from having to look down at them everyday, they always appear unsightly and 12 inches wider than they actually are. However, for those of us who aren’t naturally blessed with long model-like legs, do not give up as you’ll be surprised at how a few simple styling tips can take your legs up to the next level. Yes, literally.

Reach for the sky.
Its probably something many of you hate the thought of and also the most obvious of the tips but I'm going to put it out there anyway. Wearing a pair of heels will always elongate your legs and give them that extra few wanted inches. Now this doesn’t mean ridiculously tall stilettos but the bigger the heel, the longer them legs are going to appear. If you do opt for a smaller heel however, make sure the style of shoe is slim as a wide, chunky shoe can leave your ankles looking larger and they are which then gives the opposite look to what were going for.

What Shoes?
If you’re looking to elongate your legs you should lean toward the most neutral ranges of shoes that match your skin tone as closely as possible. Whether this is in a matte textured suede or even a patent style, both can work just as well. The idea behind this is that it’ll make your shoes disappear into your legs, therefore making your legs look longer. This illusion is fail proof and works for any leg shape so keep your eyes peeled for that clever bit of styling next time your out in the evening or even on the commute to work.
When mentioning shoes, its also important to remember that an ankle strap or similar design feature will cut off this leg illusion so keep it simple and clean with the styles. Less is more in this case.

Going Up
We've tackled giving the illusion that your legs go into your foot space, but why not the other way? When trying to get spaghetti legs, opt for a high-waisted pieces such as a skirt or high-rise jeans. Because these styles start higher up, you’ll automatically get the illusion of longer looking legs with the added bonus of a smaller waist and more of an hourglass shape than you'll get in a top and low rise jeans.

Summer Slim
One reason we all don't mind slacking on the holiday body workout is that we know that we all will look so much slimmer and healthier with a good bit of summer glow. A little extra colour will make any set of pins look longer and leaner. Whether this means booking a last minute holiday, brushing on a bit of highlighter or using a self-tanner, if your legs have that bronzed finish they’ll immediately look a lot longer.

Do you have any tips that you swear by to give the illusion of longer legs?

BEAUTY. Mini-Clinique.

Sunday, 9 November 2014

Samples are the perfect way to test a product out to see if it is correct for your skin type or even the right colour for instance. This way you can save money by buying products that you know you'll love. Little tester pots or mini versions of a product are also great for discovering new products that you didn't know you needed in your beauty regime before.

These two Clinique sample products have caused exactly that scenario to happen and now one of them finds itself being very close to the top of my christmas list. Most of the time, samples pile up in a box in my room and never get used as they're just so fiddley and small but with these test products, they are more than generous. The next couple of weeks are most certainly covered for lip balm and face cream and even testing their long term use opposed to just the initial reaction is possible.

The Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief both has a beautiful light pink colour and a soft gel like texture which makes it so simple to apply. With it being a sort of gel creme, a small amount also goes a very long way which is another good reason to splash out that little bit further for this skin dehydrator. When I say further, I mean £34 for a 50ml tub further, but with how soft it leaves the skin and how it acts just like a lightweight primer before makeup application, it sort of seems worth it?

The other product being tested further these coming weeks is the Clinique Chubby Stick in shade Super Strawberry. This product has been a gift in a couple of magazines over the last few months I'm sure but with not being a magazine reader after being a blog reading addict, this free gift never came in my possession. Now it is however, and now its getting to chapped lip season, its the perfect time to use it. When its cold out, lips become sore and dry and lipstick can sometimes add to this dehydration. A coloured lip balm however solves this problem. The colour here is sadly a little too similar to my actual lip colour and therefore it isn't quite what I would be after, however the easy to apply aspect of it and the longevity is something that will tempt me to try out another shade.

Do you get samples before buying a more expensive product?

WISHLIST. The Black Boot Edit.

Saturday, 1 November 2014

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |

Theres nothing that completes my winter shoe closet more than the perfect pair of black boots. Chelsea boot styles are the ones for me and Im not afraid to admit that I'm not going out of my comfort zone when it comes to this. Sometimes I stare at the pictures on Pinterest and wish I could but I'm not at all a knee high boots kinda girl despite them looking amazing with a good winter coat so naturally I've missed out of my wish list this time round. Usually, I do aim to keep them as simple in design as possible to get the most wear of them however recently, I have been loving the patent croc look and the added benefit of them then being water resistant is going to be great for the rainy days, weeks and months that we know is soon to be upon us. It is this reason that I do tend to stay clear of suede effect versions and keep them beauties for autumn or the very start of winter.

A good pair of black boots is the ultimate staple and can be worn with almost any outfit. For this reason investing in a good pair is a must. One tip I always have for picking my heeled boots too is to ensure the front of the sole isn't too thin as this will without a doubt leave you with rather achey feet. When choosing a pair, it is also important to check that the width of them isn't too thin for your feet as if they aren't leather, the chances of them stretching with your foot isn't likely.

One consistency you may of spotted within this little collection of boots is that they all have either a heel or cleated sole and heel. Winter for me can leave me feeling very frumpy and so layered up that I'm looking obviously very snug, but also enormous. I tend to try and balance this out by adding on a few inches to my height which in turn lengthens the legs- making them also appear thinner- and also balances out the shape of your body by adding something chunky to the bottom as well as your thick knit jumper covered top half.

What do you look for in your winter black boots?

STYLE. Winter Berry-spiration.

Saturday, 18 October 2014

This deep purple tone is the ultimate colour of the season this year. Clashing it with a bright cobalt blue or pairing it with a a wooly jumper can create the perfect contrast in either colour or texture. Embrace it. Pick up that long winter coat in this warm shade, add a flash of the colour in the form of a scarf or even just finish off cosy, wintery outfit with a bold berry lip colour.

How are you putting this berry colour into your winter wardrobe?

The Style Blog Roll.

Wednesday, 15 October 2014

That Pommie Girl   |   The Little Magpie   |   Charissa Rae

Just a quick post today to show a bit of appreciation for those few bloggers who constantly keep me coming back to their pages and are causing me to have lengthy wish lists on nearly every website going. Admittedly, I have so many more than these three blogging icons but I'm hoping to get another tab on my page bar up soon so I can share all of my favourites.

Sarah Ashcroft is relatively  new on my blog roll but has inspired my wardrobe from that first post. Her wearable and stylish ensembles are always on trend and in keeping with the season and with them legs, she could make anything look good.

If there is one blogger who I cam only dream of swapping entire wardrobes with, its Amy Spencer. The Little Magpie was one of my first blog finds and ever since, her photographs have stolen my heart on numerous occasions, and as it has grown so considerably over the months, I can't help but see her as a true inspiration in the blogging ladder. The ultimate sassy city chic- who wouldnt love her?

Charissa Rae is another of the pages I forever find myself on. The wearable and feminine style portrayed through both smart and casual outfits is perfect and backdrops of these pictures never fail to impress either. This girl next door style and way of writing makes Charissa a great blogger and makes for an easy reader-blogger relationship.

Have you got a blog you always find yourself heading back to?

STYLE. The Wardrobe Rebuild.

Tuesday, 7 October 2014

So, you have made the decision to step up your throw-away fashion game? You want to stop wasting your money on those quick, low quality purchases and impulse buys, and reserve your closet for higher-quality garments that perfectly fit in with the style you're comfortable with. But, if your like me and your entire wardrobe needs a major overhaul but you can’t afford to buy all the clothes you need at once, what do you do?

Begin by putting together a small list of about 6 pieces that are versatile and have a big impact on your look and that you can also pair with your less-than-perfect pieces while you work on the rest of your wardrobe. Think about what your day to day activities are too and how many times you need the piece in a week. These pieces will tend to be your go-to staples on days where you don't know what to wear. If chosen well, your starter kit should already give you much more wardrobe confidence and many more options of outfits that easily put across your personal style. Lets face it, a confident person in an average outfit will always look better than a person with great pieces but no confidence in styling, let alone, wearing them. This tactic will also give you a bit more time to save up some money to further upgrade your wardrobe and reduce the temptation to go back to old habits. These better quality pieces you're gradually accumulating will also serve you for years to come and consequently through the fast paced changing of trends.

When I look at my wardrobe currently, the pieces that are reached for most are the plainer more simple pieces. When looking at my list also, I think we can all see I have a hard to break obsession with black, but if its what makes you happy, embrace it. When analysing it closer up however, it becomes evident that there is a lot more too it. The bottoms that are top of the pile are the better fitted jeans and those of a similar skin tight feel. These are the ones that give me confidence and are great with almost any top or jumper which is great for having as a staple piece. As I just mentioned also, perhaps a loose fitting top and slouchy jumper are also great staple pieces for an all year round wardrobe. Admittedly, these options aren't going to be in-fitting with everyones style but a plain casual top in a neutral colour is perfect for those dress down days alongside that perfect, good quality slouchy jumper that just hugs us on those days were you need a little comforting.

What would you put on your re-wardrobing list?

BEAUTY. The Dark Lip Duo.

Sunday, 5 October 2014

Featuring in my beauty haul at the end of last month, I had high hopes for these two lip products and when I say they didn't disappoint, I mean it. The Kate Moss Lasting collection lipstick in shade 30 and the Maybelline colour drama lip pencil in Berry Much are the products used to create this look and are both highly accessible drugstore buys. At just under £11 for the two, can you resist going for a dark lip colour this coming season?

The colour you see on both the pencil and on the lipstick look very purple but with more of a creamy hue, however, on application this is not so much the case. Both colours are actually much darker and the small sticker on the bottom of the lipstick is a much closer indication. There is also a slight raspberry and pinkish hint to the products which is lovely and definitely is an added bonus to me as this is my most favourite colour. Halloween appropriate some might say, but honestly, I now can't get another of this colour and with the help of the easy-application pencil, the end result is literally amazing and a perfect statement colour for brightening up your face.

Used together, the duo have a lasting result of around 4 hours which is pretty impressive, however with a good bit of lip salve hydration before application to help out the lipstick and its quite dry consistency,  it has even got to me to 6 hours. Impressive for a high street duo, don't you think?

BEAUTY. The Lipstick Collection. Winter Edition.

Saturday, 4 October 2014

Left to Right.
Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Collection | 30.
Maxfactor | 685 Mulberry.
Calvin Klein | 31145 Mulberry
Rimmel | 170 Alarm.
Maybelline | 547 Pleasure Me Red.

I do occasionally commit the lip colour season crime and bring my brights into my winter face but more often than not, the plums, reds and purples are my ultimate go to shades for the colder months. I absolutely adore the darker colours in both clothing and this follows over no doubt to my beauty and makeup collections. Theres just something I feel is so much more glam about a darker lipstick and when styled up with snug scarves or a big fur collar- I am all over it. Dark shades aren't great for complimenting some skin tones but I feel it really lifts my face and oddly enough brightens up my complexion. Having a darker or bolder lip colour also definetely detracts attention for any unwanted dark circles or that pesky spot appearing so if you reach for anything in a rush on the colder mornings of the winter months, make sure its one of these lipsticks!

Do you have any recommedations I could add to my winter collection?

BEAUTY. Dark Lip Tips.

Friday, 3 October 2014

While nude lips is a great day time look and involves some timeless shades, sometimes a pop of colour is in order to brighten up the face or to tie in that red belt or bag into your monochrome ensemble. This summer has been all about really pigmented lip shades with even choices such as neons, greens and oranges being accepted into the market which has consequently led us to have more fun by making bold statements with the mouth. With these bolder shades however comes a whole new way of application and they aren’t as easy to apply and go as we would of hoped. Nobody wants that blurred lip line and the messy look- cleaner, perfect lips are where we need to be with this, but with a bit of preparation, a steady hand and a few minutes of added time, it'll be second nature in no time.

The Preparation.

Some of us have naturally hydrated lips, and then some of us aren't as lucky and after a couple of hours, dry patches begin to cling to the product making a very uneven colour distribution. Make sure that whatever you have, you keep your lips in tip top condition when opting for lip products and especially when using bolder shades. Using a good lip exfoliatior like the Lush lip scrub where the sugar particles will gently slough off dead skin leaving a soft and plumper lip area. The application of a moisturising lip balm is another of the must-do things as it will keep the soft texture of the lips for longer and will help to avoid cracking and also makes any lipsticks glide on easier. A good lip salve is definitely a must for your handbag also to get you elegantly through the day.

The Outline.

Im new to this whole step myself but now I'm in, I can never face jumping back out. Lip liners are great when worn under brighter shades. By applying in a matching or very similar hue under the shade your using, you are able to lock in colour for an extra few hours at least. By drawing in the shape, it also allows you to exaggerate your shape and cupids bow, but please do not take this too far- be realistic and try not to draw your lip line too much as it can look very 'blow-up-doll'-esque. Take your time with this stage, its important.

The Colouring In.

Admittedly, i'm a 'straight from the stick' kinda girl but I'm aware of the positives that many of you get from using a lip brush. Whichever way you prefer, make sure your comfortable with smooth application as a more controlled way of applying colour will always look cleaner and better. Start by applying the shade to the centre of your lip and then sweep outwards, blending and creating shape. Finally press your lips together to blend out the sharp line on the inside of the lips for the perfect darker, bolder pout.

What are your tips for getting the perfect dark lip?

BEAUTY. The Mainly-Makeup Autumn Haul.

Tuesday, 30 September 2014

If I haven't already spent all my money before payday actually comes round, one thing I like to do is have pop into Boots and have a little play round with the new products and any new colours for the season that I haven't tried before. So, this was exactly what I did yesterday. I like to hold out for the offers that are regularly on also and this month it coincided well which meant I could pick up a few new products at a fraction of their normal and occassionally rather overpriced retail value.

One product I have been after for months is a lip pencil as the colour bleed from lipstick can get really frustrating and I have read that by using a pen first, the longevity of the lipstick is improved which is an all round winner to me if that is the case. The Maybelline Colour Drama range has received some great reviews recently and has also been compared to the ever popular Nars Lip Liner. The creamy texture it had when swatched is also a nice change to the scratchy application I've previously encounted which isn't a nice feeling at all when drawing onto skin. Despite some amazing colours in range, I chose to pick up the shade 310 Berry Much which is a subtle purple and is definitely a great autumn shade.

I couldn't buy a new lip pencil however and not find a dark lipstick to match. Rimmel is no new brand to me but admittedly I have never tried anything from their Kate Moss Lasting Lipstick collection. They have been around for quite a while which I can only assume is a positive comment on their success so when I saw the lovely shade 30- a deep burnt purple, I was happy to give it a go.

A couple of other products Ive picked recently are Rimmel's Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation which is so far so good, and also their Wonder'full Mascara in Black which I'm yet to try out but after seeing the brush style, I have no doubts at all. Last on my haul list is the Baylis and Harding Sweet Mandarin and Grapefruit Hand Lotion which I might add smells beyond amazing and has a nice little spot on my desk for a bit of morning or after- shower hand rehydration.

What lip colours are you going for this autumn?

The Paris Photo Diary. The City & The Sights.

Sunday, 28 September 2014

Lets face it, thinking it would be okay to climb the spiral staircase to the top of the Arc de Triumphe at the start of day was never a clever idea. Wearing heeled sandals to visit all the sights in Paris was also not one of my brightest moments but nonetheless, it happened and I loved it. The view from the Arc de Triumphe was amazing- the perfect tree lined streets, the eiffel tower, the cute little juliet balconies that shone from every building- it was just lovely to see and we were also lucky enough to find that entry was free which was definitely a bonus.

From here, we heading down the back roads towards the Eiffel Tower where we discovered the best ice cream I have had in years and also found a little place selling freshly made churro's, so naturally we just had to have both. From this moment, the heavens opened and the rain became torrential which meant my time at the eiffel tower was very short lived and photos just weren't going to happen, but did however mean that I was able to spend more time shopping in the stores on the Champs Elysees to avoid the rain.

One store I was determined to visit in my time in Paris and is like any beauty blogger would say- Sephora. From the moment I saw the rows of products, lights and colours inside, I was beyond excited, however as I began browsing and seeking out the products I had prepared myself to buy, the realisation of it was that not only did they not seem to have the ones I was after, the cost of the products were so much higher than here due to the french cost of living being much higher.

Overall, my time in Paris was one I wouldn't change and I will without a doubt return to visit new places and new areas as soon as I can for a longer period of time. On my return I would also aim to make it to the Louvre before they close entry to the museum and a little bit of day planning would be my biggest tip to anyone else having only a short stay.

Do you know of any underrated areas in Paris that are great for food and shopping?
