The Spring Nail Edit.

Tuesday, 31 March 2015

If you managed to read my post on the beauty regimes that I just don't have time for (here if you didn't), you will know that me and nail polishes have a love-hate relationship. I really haven't got the patience to be touching them up or removing and repainting them every other day, but on the other hand, I love how nails look with a splash of colour and can really lift my mood once done as they look so pretty.

Spring is all about colour and to me, its the chance to bring back in those pastel shades we had to sadly leave behind a few months ago. The perfect and also simplest way to do this is through adding that bit of colour onto our nails so I thought I'd show you some of my favourites with inspiration coming from the beautiful blossom trees appearing and the lighter sky we finally get to see. These polish picks are all ultimate favourites of mine and are also all drugstore brands that retail for no more than around £5 so they're really affordable choices for everyone.

The Pastel Pinks of Spring.

Sunday, 29 March 2015

I just had to check- I knew it had been a while but I was beyond shocked to find that my last outfit post was so long ago- last July to be exact. Ive done a couple of haul and style posts since then but its pretty clear that beauty now takes up most of the content for my blog. In no way am I complaining at that- I love all things skincare and makeup- but I definitely haven't lost my love for style and fashion along the way, so my most recent goal for my blog, and also myself, is to start exploring this side of things again. What better way to start this off than with a few photos while on a nice afternoon stroll in a nearby deer park?

So here it is, my first outfit post of the year and also of Spring. Its quite simple but definitely one of my go-to looks at the moment. Im going through a serious stage of 'comfort over height' so my heeled boots and other such footwear have a firm place on the shelf for the moment and trainers and flats are getting a serious amount of wear. Sports luxe looks and just general smart-casual attire has always been my favourite kind of style when picking an outfit and I think this outfit shows just how easy that can be. Monochrome outfits are so simple to do but with a splash of pastel pink through this amazingly cosy and soft faux suede jacket, you have the perfect outfit and outerwear for those days when the weather just doesn't know what its doing.

Whats your favourite spring colour?

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara Review.

Friday, 27 March 2015

When I say that Maybelline do some of the best mascaras you can get from the drugstore, I think you will all agree with me! The Falsies mascara is probably one of my all time favourites, and so is the One By One Volum' Express and for this reason, I didn't hesitate at all when choosing this mascara as I knew it couldn't possibly let me down. I wasn't wrong. In all honesty, this mascara is amazing and pretty much made its way into my top 5 mascaras of all time and its only been a week.

The wand of a mascara to me is more important than the fluid and this one ticks this box for me. It grabs every lash and coats even those annoying corner ones and separates them out beautifully. This coating enables eyes to look bolder and really lengthens out the lashes. When I say I don't even have to curl my eyelashes with this, you'll know exactly what I mean about it being brilliant. It adds volume, lengthens and doesn't even leave them pesky little clumps.

I think we can safely say that overall, I'm very pleased with this mascara. Being able to achieve a really clean curl and build it up for a perfect dramatic look without getting those spider lashes- who could ever ask for more?

What mascara's from Maybelline do you love?

The In-Depth Skincare Routine.

Wednesday, 25 March 2015

I don't tend to talk much about routines here on my blog and that’s mainly because I don’t like to change it too often. Risking my skin not liking something is a big fear of mine and having a bad reaction is never what you want to happen as you can end up buying another three products just to get rid. I thought today however I’d run through my current and in depth skincare routine but realistically only my routine for when I have more time and feel like spending a little longer on my skin if its not looking at its healthiest. Ive also put clickable links at the end of this post for those of you who fancy giving any of these products a try.

The first step is to take off all the make up and grime of the day and to do that, I use the trusty Garnier Micellar Water. I’ve used this for a while now and it removes make up perfectly although I do tend to just give my face a quick rinse after as it can be quite drying otherwise, but it does prep my skin for cleansing really well. However, for a deeper cleanse I tend to use the Clinique Clarifying Lotion which is amazing beyond words for taking away anything unwanted in your skin. I tend to avoid using this regularly however as it tightens the skin a little so anywhere near my eyes is a no-no as its quite strong and I'm sure would burn for a good while if you tried taking eye makeup off with this.

Once rinsed with warm water, then comes the nicer bit of massaging and applying the Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream into the skin. This cream is a little heavy for everyday application to the skin and may block pores but the occasional use leaves skin feeling hydrated, soft and definitely brighter.

That seems like a lot of steps but I get it done quite quickly. It’s takes about 10 minutes plus however long I chose to leave the Nivea Clear Up Strips on, so at the most, no more than 20 minutes but I don't tend to use these more than once a month as they can leave your skin quite sensitive and overuse I'm sure isn't good for anyone's skin. The final part however is to leave a nice amount of the Body Shop Born Lippy Lipsalve on my lips to bring them back to a nice smooth texture and also adds a nice touch of colour to them while they hydrate. I use the Strawberry scented one however there isn't one that I dislike so definitely go with whichever ones take your fancy.

What products do you use in your full skincare routine?

The Pink Beauty Picks.

Monday, 23 March 2015

Sometimes seen a bit of a girly and almost tacky colour if used in the wrong way, me and pink fall in and out of love regularly. Saying this however, that doesn't stop much of my dressing table unintentionally being filled with the feminine colour in a variety of ways and shades. Whether this is in the form of lipsticks and other beauty bits or even though the storage solutions I have for these things; they all lighten and brighten the space and add  in that little bit of happiness. With it heading into spring, I also thought it would be the perfect time to bring them all out. Many of my fragrances would of also tied in well with this pink themed post however I recently explored this here on my blog so I kept this post strictly makeup and skincare. Admittedly a couple of the products I've picked out for this post are here because their packaging is pink but that counts right?

Do you like pink pigmented products or do you prefer to try other colours?

The Hair Dreams & Routine.

Friday, 20 March 2015

Hair is one of those many things where we always want and try to get what we don't have. If we have flowing locks of perfectly straight, thin hair, we do everything in our power to add volume and curls, and vice versa. Its just a way of the world i guess. This saying massively applies to me also as with thick, wavy hair, I dream of having straight manageable hair thats soft, not frizz prone and easy to style. We all dream but without tonnes of money to spend on making this come true, we have to make the best of what we have by developing and tailoring our own hair routine to suit us, our lifestyle and our preferences. From this, I thought I would use this thought to share with you all just how I manage my hair and hopefully inspire your routine in the process.

Everyday : Tie up my hair at some point during the day, brush it if its been styled straight.

Every other day : Wash my hair, style it either curly or straight, use styling cream.

Every week : Throughly brush my hair and detangle.

Every fortnight : Condition prewash using coconut oil.

Every month : Thin out to make lighter using thinning shears.

Every half year : Go for a much needed hair cut.

What do you do in your routine to keep your hair healthy and looking good?

The Maybelline Nudes.

Wednesday, 18 March 2015

Nude lip colours can be quite a daunting thought. If you're like me, when you think of these browner shades, you can also begin to think of the dreaded look of foundation lips which is no ones dream. These shades however have completely changed my mind. The darker of the two Tantalizing Taupe is almost on the orange side of a nude or brown and therefore allows your lips to still stand out against your skin tone yet be a subtle option compared to colours like reds or pinks. The lighter and more nude of the two, Sultry Sand, is very light and as you can see from the photo is almost identical to my skin tone. When applied to the lips however, it brings in softer pink than the natural lip colour and luckily isn't fully pigmented so doesn't leave a heavy coloured coating.

So, here they are, my two favourite and wearable nude shades from the Maybelline Color Sensational browns range. There is about five colours in this range I believe and they can be identified by their beige coloured lids compared to the red and pink ones in their regular range. These all however have the same qualities and are brilliant drug store priced lip products. The moisture levels in them are really hydrating and the pigment is of an average level making them great for build-able colour strength yet perfect for those looking for that light touch of colour.

Which nude lipsticks are you reaching for this season?

The Ruby Woo Wonder.

Friday, 13 March 2015

I did it. I joined the bandwagon and bought my first ever MAC lipstick. My first MAC product in my collection now for that matter. Others have been bought before such as the Studio Fix Foundation and concealer which I loved, but somewhere along the line, my relationship with them fell apart. Whether thats because I feel very intimated by their beauty counter when I go shopping so I don't end up buying anything though, or because I find many of their items quite overpriced- I'm not entirely sure, but I'm back to being a fan.

Lipsticks and lip pencils are definitely the most bought and reviewed products from MAC. Initially it was the Velvet Teddy shade I went looking for but, no surprise, it was out of stock for the second week so I needed to find an alternative. The alternative I ended up falling for however was this Ruby Woo shade of their Retro Matte Lipstick collection has caught my eye on many occasions.

Its so difficult sometimes finding the perfect red lipstick for my skin tone as with quite pale skin, some reds can look a little too drag queen for any kind of wear. Ruby Woo however seemed like a darker red than perhaps some of the others which was just what I was looking for. Alongside it being quite a subtle red, something else about it that completely sold me was that it is matte. Not always the best finish due to them being quite drying usually, this edition by MAC is the perfect mix and doesn't cause this at all- ideal right?

Now I'm in the club again, it would be wrong of me not to maintain my re-found love wouldn't it? So, with this in mind, I've added the Vegas Volt lipstick and Whirl lip pencil to my mental and 2456 item strong wish list, alongside pretty much all of the newest collection from MAC- the Cinderella collection. Who wouldn't want makeup like a Disney Princess eh?

What was your first ever MAC buy?

The Naked On The Run Box.

Wednesday, 11 March 2015

This year I made it my mission to step up my makeup game and begin to try new things. Not really product wise but more experimenting with looks and being a bit more brave. With this I started bringing in some newer lip colours and also played around with eyeshadows. Never have I been a heavy eye makeup type person and never will I be but Ive now fully accepted that a small and cleverly applied bit of colour does wonders for bringing out your eyes and also can instantly take you from a bare faced day time look to a night time, party face.

So now I've got that pre-buy story covered, it makes it a bit more clear as to why I convinced myself to invest a bit of money in a new and amazingly coloured set of eyeshadow. I would of just done what any other other person would of done and bought the Urban Decay Naked palette but when I tell you that this Naked On The Run box was being sold at £27.30 opposed to the retail price of £39, and then I received a further employee discount of 25% taking the price to £20.50- you may start to question why I only bought the one.

In many beauty box sets you buy, there is always a couple of products you're not too fussed about owning and for me, this would have to be the 24-7 Glide On eyeliner. I left this type of product back in my teen years and have no intention of bringing it back. However, other products in the box that I adore are the previously mentioned eyeshadows in shades; Dive, Fix, Resist, Dare, Stun and the base colour of 5050, and also the perversion mascara which I can't wait to try, the tinted Sesso lipgloss and the blush and bronzer duo.

The Naked On The Run set is essentially designed as the perfect travel beauty set and is great for being a handbag essential, however I wouldn't quite say I could just take this box instead of a bag of makeup for any travelling as it misses out my foundation and other base products, but it sure would make it so much easier to pack.

What do you think of the Urban Decay Naked On The Run set?

The Fragrance Favourites.

Monday, 9 March 2015

Fragrance is one of the topics which I'm yet to explore on the beauty side of this page and I'm actually not sure why. As I've mentioned previously, I love anything that looks good and packaging can be the to buy or not to buy decision maker, so fragrance constantly is a product that draws me in. When it comes to picking a scent, the more fresh, sweet and lightly floral ones are the products I tend to go for as I feel that they are perfect all year round and aren't too overpowering.

The beautifully presented Princess by Vera Wang was my first ever perfume and ever since, it has been a staple in my collection. Its also the perfect handbag size addition without being too bulky and also feels pretty solid and sturdy.

This is the most recent one to be added in and it is Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. Im not usually one for celebrity designed perfumes but this one is just as it says on the bottle; lovely. Its quite simple in appearance but this definitely adds a level of sophistication. Retailing for around £20 too in many online stores, this is without a doubt worth the money as a great collection builder or even the perfect present with mothers day creeping up.

I don't think I stand alone when I say Marc Jacobs seems to ruling the fragrance department at the moment, well at least for the younger generations. Daisy and Lola are the two that I currently own however I also adore Dot and hope to get my hands on that one soon too. One that Im not too keen on however was the newer release of Daisy Dream which was a little too overpowering and not as fresh a scent as many of the others by Marc Jacobs. Through the beautiful world of social media however I recently heard that there is another release which is quite exciting as it is a limited edition sorbet version of Daisy. Even the name sounds summer ready doesn't it? So, yes, I really can't wait to go and give that a try.

Aside from the Marc Jacobs couple I mentioned, a couple of other fragrances I am loving recently is the Narciso Rodriguez, Narciso perfume which is amazing and almost a bath  type product with its almost creamy and quite soft scent. Alongside this, the original Prada, the Rosabotanica by Balenciaga and also the newest Burberry release; My Burberry. Now, how beautiful would that all look my dressing table eh?

Which do you look for when picking a fragrances?

The Beauty Regimes There Just Isn't Time For.

Friday, 6 March 2015

I think most, if not all of us, are guilty of skipping bits of our morning or evening routines, being lazy, and trying to wittle it down to as little steps as possible. For this reason, I thought it would be fun to write a bit about some of the things I tend to skip and, lets face it, the things I just don't have time for.

Cleaning Brushes:

I know, I know, it needs to be done. But cleaning brushes is something that just rarely happens. If my brush gets a bit too clogged up, I tend to just buy new ones. This can get to be quite an expensive way of doing it but whenever I wash my brush, especially my foundation brush, they never quite look or feel the same as a brand new, fresh out of the packet edition.

Toners:

Never have I quite understood the purpose of toners but I hear a lot about them and how they leave skin radiant and replenished however once my usual skincare routine is complete, I don't feel like this was a step or extra product I needed. For those with dry or uneven skin tones however, this may work wonders for you, but for me, this just isn't an essential product.

Nail Polish:

So many shades, so many textures- I absolutely adore nail polish and I'm a complete hoarder of all colours but if I'm completely honest, the use I get out of them is minimal. Painting my nails feels like quite a therapeutic chore when Im doing it but when day two comes and theres a chip in one of them, it feels like it was all a waste of time and I end up removing the whole lot and starting again. Lets face it, theres just not enough time in the day for everyday nail painting.

Tanning:

Oh how we all dream of being a bronzed goddess even in the coldest months, but in reality, who wants to be standing in minimal clothes for hours tanning for it then to go to waste when we shove on our highest necked wooly jumper, jeans and boots? Certainly not me. Its all about giving the illusion by creating a sun kissed facial tone using highlighters and bronzers in all the right places for me.

Which beauty steps do you just never get round to doing?

The Updated Mascara Collection.

Wednesday, 4 March 2015

Mascara's definitely take up the smallest area in my beauty section on my desk and also the smallest amount of time in my morning routine, yet they are also one of the most vital additions for me to feel normal and for my face to be complete. I don't tend to keep many mascaras as I find that they dry up quite quickly once opened so I try to keep a maximum of two available to use and then a spare one for when one finishes. Its almost like a mascara life cycle in some ways- one goes and another comes to life- but its just a routine and thing that I've always seemed to do. So, here they are anyway, the current three that are in my collection and my thoughts on them...

The most used option here is definitely my Maybelline One by One Volum' Express Mascara as it comes everywhere with me. It is the best option here for volume but sometime with volume comes clumping so when applying, be careful not to overdo it. A few precise combs through the eyelashes should leave you with curled and a heavier lashline easily. The wand and brush of this product is the perfect version for me and one that always seems to be the easiest way for me to apply due to its heavy bristling and curved, bullet type shape for those hard to reach corner lashes.

The newest addition to my photographed mini collection is this Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara that featured in my latest beauty haul post, and when I say its probably my new favourite, I mean it in every aspect of mascara checklist-ability. Its just perfect. The packaging looks sophisticated and the product is an all round winner in terms of lifting, coating and also lengthening the lashes for a bright eyed and feminine look in minutes.

Last but not least is the Rimmel Wonder'full Mascara with Argan Oil. This mascara has served well and is without a doubt the best at lengthening lashes. However, with the more comb like bristles on the wand, gaining a good coating on the lashes is a lot more difficult. With this, the final outcome is a more subtle emphasis on the lashes which can be perfect for some eye looks and also for those who wear minimal makeup. Definetely not a contender to be overlooked by far though.

Have you tried any of these mascaras? What did you think?

The New Home News & Wishlist.

Monday, 2 March 2015

Jacquard Weave Rug | Wire Basket | Candle Pack | Stripe Cushion Cover | Candlestick | Rabbit Lamp | Dragon Tree | Toothbrush Mug | Damask Cushion | Ceiling Light | Mantel Clock | Stag Bookend |

It's happening- it's finally happening- I'm moving out! This time next week I should be in my new home and excited doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this move. There are many reasons why this is the best news I've had in ages, but a big part of the reason I'm looking forward to this move however is because I suffer really badly from home envy whenever I see posts by bloggers such as Kate from gh0stparties and when I begin my pinning frenzy on pinterest. Although there is a lot to work on when it comes to acheiving these amazing design skills, I'm looking forward to giving it a go and making the flat into a perfect little home that I can feel happy in.

I'm definitely hoping to go for quite a clean and fresh look in the flat when buying homeward as I think this is vital when trying to make it feel bigger and tactically tidier. But in saying this, I've also definitely fallen for this recent trend of copper and wire objects so I've been on the lookout for the more practical type bits in this style such as the little wire basket and ceiling light. Bringing a pop of colour into the rooms is also something I'm looking to do, so what better way than with printed cushions, rugs and candles- items that can easily be changed and updated with seasons, trends or just when you're feeling like a change.

What home trends are you loving at the moment?
