The Yumi Clothing Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

Thursday, 30 April 2015

Theres always so many hashtags floating about in support of causes that we care about in hope to raise much needed funds for the appeal. Admittedly, sometimes its hard to not just look past them when its filling every one of your social media channels. However, we must remember that it really is a great way to use our networks and knowledge of marketing for a good cause, and is evidently proving to be more effective than most previous ways in sharing the word. However, I was pleasantly surprised to be informed of this amazing way that the clothing company Yumi was using their time, brand name and online presence to do just this.

In a gesture of goodwill, Yumi are donating 100% of the proceeds (net of VAT) of their 'Asha' dress to the Yumi Nepal Earthquake Appeal. It aims to provide the relief of financial need and suffering that has come from the earthquake in Nepal, and improve the situation for many of its residents. To raise these much needed funds they have used the skills of its team to create a product that gives you a beautiful dress while still providing for a deserving cause. You can buy the ‘Asha’ dress here and in Yumi Stores priced at £45, and lets face it, what better way to spend that money?

Let me know if you do give to this cause by buying the 'Asha' dress- I would love to see some photographs! If you wish to find out more about the story behind the campaign, head over to the Yumi blog post here.

The End of April Beauty Haul.

Wednesday, 29 April 2015

I was so happy to discover yesterday that I have a quite good Superdrug round the corner from me. I'm definitely more of a boots girl usually as I like to collect my points all in one store, but sadly the Boots next door isn't so good and I had to make this sacrifice for the sake of some new beauty buys.

Some of the things I was after however weren't in stock or the actual products had been tested, but I am a typical shopper and am always to find alternatives. The bits I did want to pick up were the L'Oreal Le Palette Nude as it looks like the perfect set with my sort of colours, and also the shades I don't already have from the Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencils such as Nude Perfection as I absolutely love them. I'm definitely keeping them on my list however for my next trip, but nonetheless I'm still really happy with the bits I did get.

What I picked up:
Nivea Express Hydration Primer for Normal & Combination Skin
L'Oreal Infallible Mattifying Primer
Maybelline Colour Tattoo in 35- On and On Bronze
Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate Lipstick in 08

Once tried and tested, all of these new bits will be reviewed here on my page so keep checking back or follow me using the link in the sidebar if you want to know my thoughts.

What beauty bits do you think I should add to my list to pick up next time?

The Biggest Beauty Mistakes Girls Make.

Sunday, 26 April 2015

This post isn't necessarily about beauty mistakes in general as I'd be here all day, but instead I've decided to focus on makeup and the application of it. There are plenty of tips that we would love to be able give our 14 year old selves to save the embarrassment when looking back at old photos, but I guess now we just have to be thankful that we outgrew them. These mistakes can leave you looking tired and like you've got ready in the dark, and who would aim for either?  Whether you buy the most expensive makeup or the cheapest- bad application and carelessness can make or break your look.

The Face Mask
Not extending your base to the hairline and down the neck is one of the biggest mistakes I often see and scarily, I can sometimes be a victim of this too when I rush in the morning. This is a classic mistake that pretty much every girl makes at some point in her life. Always make sure to blend your foundation into your hairline and down your neck for natural-looking coverage.

Not Blending Eyeshadows
Blending out your eyeshadows once they're applied is so important. Even if you're only wearing one eyeshadow or color for the day and you don't think its super pigmented, make sure to blend out the edges to avoid harsh lines or uneven eye makeup. Use a light hand or a soft brush to do this when blending to create this gradient effect rather than a messy and unkept look.

Not Prepping
If you have dry skin especially, you will know the importance of prepping your skin before foundation. However this is important also if your skin is oily as you may find that your base begins sliding off otherwise. So, whatever your kind type, make sure you prep your skin by moisturising and leaving to sink in before putting on any makeup. Next step is to apply a primer so if you do have oily skin, look for a mattifying primer to apply, however if you do suffer from dry patches, perhaps a more velvety feeling or moisture based primer will be for you. This will help your makeup stay on and flawless during the day and will help keep you shine-free also.

Lipstick On Teeth
One issue I don't tend to get but have seen happen countless times is the lipstick on teeth look. It's easier than you think to get your lipstick on your teeth, and there's nothing more embarrassing than seeing your reflection in a mirror with a bright streak of red on your teeth and nobody has told you.

Lash Curling
One of the quickest and easiest ways to make your eyes look bigger and better is to curl your lashes. Giving your lashes that extra curl really opens them up and also makes applying mascara so much easier and means you won't use nearly as much to get the same look.

What are some mistakes that you see and hate?

The Fears of Fitness.

Wednesday, 22 April 2015

Photo
A slightly embarrassing type of post in a way, but I've seen many people worry and let their fears defeat them on the same issue as I've had. That issue is the issue of breaking out of habits and beginning a fitness routine- something that is also new to me. Whether thats joining a gym or even gaining the confidence to go on your first actual run, so many of us get these irrational worries about how we might be thought of, how our capabilities won't compare to others or even little things such as getting lost.

As much as we all like pinning photos onto fitness boards on Pinterest of beautifully toned, tanned women- seeing that as ourselves is a lot harder said than done. If like me you haven't been the most enthusiastic when it comes to getting fit and healthy and you now think its probably about time, fear not. Everyone starts at the bottom. Yes, even that bodybuilding woman using large weights at the gym probably once never knew how to use them. My point here is not to be afraid to ask- most people would love to help and remember what it was like when they was unsure. They will also probably find it great that you want to learn

If you aren't quite ready to join a gym yet however and want to build up your fitness or even perhaps lose a few pounds, one way to do this is by taking up running. Running is the perfect no-ties form of exercise and is also great for the bank as it doesn't cost a thing. Some fears that people do have when the idea is proposed however is this idea that you have to be able to run for miles and miles continuously to do it. This is not true at all. I mean, obviously this would be great for your fitness but you use it as something to aim towards, not an running must.

Another fear that I have heard mentioned many times and also a big fear of mine is how people may see you or even judge you. The truth is- they don't. On my first run last week, I was conscious of nearby people and tried to avoid them as much as I could, however it wasn't until I had finished that I realised I had completely forgot about this fear after about the first 15 mins. Runners aren't a rare sight anymore wherever you go and despite my slow pace and regular stops, noone really payed any attention which really helped my worries about this disappear.

If this post still hasn't cleared up your fears however, its not all over. Home based fitness is a massively expanding and helpful way to step up your fitness game. Although it is very motivation based as such and if you are like me and give up quickly, it can be very hard to maintain. However, it is the perfect way to tone your body easily and with youtube videos and dvd's in abundance at the moment, you've got no excuse! This way of exercising also comes with only a small cost too with the only equipment needed really being a yoga style mat and also a small set of weights potentially or other similar equipment.

So, there it is. I hope this post has helped to eliminate some of fears you may of had about starting up your own exercise routine, and remember, theres no better time than now! Get your family and friends behind you too as the support is a great help and without it, you're more likely to give up. Whatever your excuses are for hating exercise and not doing it, its that lack of motivation that holds you back from getting moving and becoming the person you always wished you could be.

What are some of the fears you've had about starting to exercise?

The April Wishlist: Shoe Edit

Monday, 20 April 2015

Photo
For the first time in weeks, I actually shopped today. Not an unusual situation for most and especially not for a blogger, but I've been avoiding it like the plague through fear of buying an unneeded heap of things. But not today- I threw out the usual window shopping  and I actually tried things on, fell in love with bits I couldn't justify buying and obviously purchased more than I needed.

One thing that did stand out for me though is the amount of amazing shoes about. This transitional time in retail means they're so much choice for both the cold weather were hopefully leaving behind and the glorious summer were soon to embrace. Whether you're after boots, sandals or heels- there really is something for everyone at the moment. So, for that reason, I thought i'd share with you a few of the styles that are on my wish list in the hope that they inspire you for your next shopping trip.

Whats your holy grail shoe store at the moment?

The First Home Tour.

Friday, 17 April 2015

| Rabbit NightLight | Drinking Cup (primark) | Minnie Mouse |

| Lomography Camera (Similar) | Basket (similar) | Candle (primark) | Frame (similar) | Metallic Candle (similar) |

| Lipstick holder | White Storage (home sense) |

Maybe using the title 'tour' was a little extreme, but I thought I would share a few of the parts of my home that Im pleased with. Not all aspects are complete but that comes in time and after many shopping trips. The bits that I do like however aren't quite Pinterest worthy as I discussed in my realities of moving out post, but they make my flat really feel like home to me and that is something I find to be really important.

What shops do you love for finding home accessories?

The 60 Seconds Shine Nail Polish: Let's Get Nude.

Thursday, 16 April 2015

If theres one colour I plan on filling every aspect of my life with this season its nude- we can count that as a colour right? Its so clean yet stylish and looks amazing paired with so many other colours. I wasn't going to let that stop at my wardrobe however- eyeshadows, lip colours- they're all facing a new addition. This beautiful nail polish is also one of those new additions however and is going to make my nails clean and cool all from this little camel coloured coating.

Rimmel is one of my ultimate favourite drug store brands. Its rare I find or try anything Im not a fan of. Even my other Rimmel nail polishes take pride of place on my shelf. So, when I saw that the new 60 Second Super Shine products were on an introductory price in Asda for £2, I just had to grab one to try. I picked up the 513 Lets Get Nude as I absolutely adore the shade- its light yet has a nice subtle brown to it yet isn't too similar to a normal nail colour. However after testing it out, I found that to get the colour like it is in the bottle, three to four coats is needed, and no-one has time for that kind of waiting around. The formula itself is quite thin also which I find tends to link with quick chipping during wear. However, something I do really like about this paint is that it does what it says on the bottle- well kind of- it is amazingly shiny and makes my nails look healthy and well looked after. Like I said however, this product only kind of does what it says as the claim to dry in 60 seconds isn't quite true as after more like 2 mins did it feel less tacky and unimpressionable.

As much as the shade availability is amazing on this range and the shine it provided was one of the best id seen, I think when picking up my next shade, Il go for a more bold  colour or just pick a heavier formulated nail polish such as that from Essie or Models Own.

How are you introducing nude colours into your style this season?

The Burberry Kisses Sample.

Tuesday, 14 April 2015

One of those products that many of us wouldn't of even heard of, let alone got round to testing out without the recent promotional campaign, is the Burberry Kisses lipstick. A simple nomination got you the chance to be on the list for receiving a sample of this new on the market lipstick and it was all that filled my twitter feed for a few days. Naturally, I made sure I was one of them, and the other day my sample turned up on my doormat.

The sample itself is tiny but still in the traditional lipstick packaging which I thought was great and really gave you a true idea of what it would be like if you decided to buy it. The options for the sample was one of three colours, a nude, a deep red and this subtle yet dark pink shade called Sepia. The real range for Burberry Kisses is much vaster than this however and has some much more original options which is exciting.

The lipstick itself has a lovely pattern on its exterior as many high end ones do, and I think this adds a really nice touch. The formula itself of the product is a really comfortable one to wear as it isn't too heavy or sticky despite the shine it has once applied. However the shade I chose isn't the most bold when worn which I think lets it down a little, so if you're thinking of picking one up, I'd say to go for a stronger colour.

Did you manage to get your hands on one of these samples?

The Spring Lip Edit.

Sunday, 12 April 2015

Theres light for hours and hours, theres warm weather to venture outside in now- what more could a blogger need? Well, in my case, an extra arm! If theres one thing I really struggle with when it comes to blog photographs, its taking photos of my own arm or hand for testing purposes. It just never wants to go into focus especially when I have no spare hands- but here it is anyway- my best attempt at showing you my favourite lip colours for the spring.

First up on the left of both photographs is the MUA lipstick which I may even say is my favourite shade out of these lip colours. Its fresh and different yet looks subtle when applied to the lips. Despite this being my go to shade here- its far from my go to lipstick as I'm not a massive fan of the MUA range as I find them hard to apply and quite lumpy- is that even possible? For £1, I'm no sure I can complain as the pigment is amazing but the formula itself just isn't for me.

The Bourjois Rouge Edition bright and light pink lipstick is second in the lineup and is a lipstick I've had for a good while now and even reviewed this time last year here. It isn't the best for staying power as I mentioned however with a nice under layer of lip liner and lip salve, this is improved considerably and makes it the perfect shade for a day in the sun.

If theres one lipstick I hope never ends, its this next one- the Dior in this beautifully bright pink (shade Darling). This product has all sorts of amazing qualities including great pigmentation, hydration and staying power. If I could afford all my lipsticks to be Dior- trust me- I would, but for now, this great shade of pink is my perfect spring evening lip product.

Lastly, this Rimmel lipstick in Latino is the most neutral and similar to a lip colour I own. For this reason I've added it to the list as it looks perfect for evening out your natural lip colour while adding that little extra something and a bit of subtle shimmer if you're not keen on going completely bare lipped.

What do you look for in a lipstick for the warmer weather?

The Life Update.

Friday, 10 April 2015

Being 22 and not knowing what you want to do with your life is a really terrifying thought. You think you should have it all planned out and of began to build on your career by now but it seems this isn't the case. Reality is, university doesn't give you all the answers, and what if after your degree, you realise this area just isn't for you?

Lets face it, having no job sounds like the ultimate dream when you're feeling tired from getting up every morning and going to a job you don't like. But when you're in the position of being unemployed and not seeing any change on this in the near future, you have a lot of thinking time on your hands. Ive been through the highs and the very low-low's recently and it wasn't until after a lot of thought and this amazingly inspirational post over on The Private Life Of A Girl about knowing what you don't want in life, that I actually began to consider having this outlook. Don't get me wrong, I still don't know what career I want to enter or how I'm going to get to where I want to be but I now have something that I find exciting and something I know I'm going to be happy investing much of my free time in alongside blogging and job hunting.

Yesterday I opened a store on Etsy. From before my fashion degree, back into the early school days, I've always enjoyed drawing and find it almost therapeutic. It also gives me a great sense of achievement when I create something I'm proud of and this exact feeling is what I know is going to get me through this hard and confusing chapter of my life. Admittedly, my etsy store is small at the moment and contains my most recent series of flower fashion illustrations, but with dedication and a lot of practice, I definitely hope to expand this in time.

If you do fancy taking a look at my store, adding one of my illustrations to your home or staying up date with any new prints- you can do here.

The Best Red Lip Products.

Wednesday, 8 April 2015

Theres nothing like the feeling of having perfected the statement red lip. Its just one of those things that gives you feelings of accomplishment and is the ultimate show stopping colour if done well. Theres pretty much nothing that it doesn't go with too which is always ideal right?

These four are not only my four favourite reds in my stash, but also are a couple of my all time favourites. The MAC Ruby Woo is the most red of the reds for no simpler way of putting it and is also the newest of the four. Its the colour we all think of when we think of a traditional red and it can do no wrong. Its sutler than the others yet bold enough to make an impact. Ruby Woo hosts a limited undertones in my opinion, especially when compared to shades such as Mayfair Red Lady by Rimmel from the Moisture Renew range which is pushing much more on the orange borderline. Nonetheless, this shade accomplishes that red lip feeling, along with being the perfect balance and also a great summer alternative.

The next red lip product on the list is the Maybelline ColorSensational in shade Colour Me Red which is marginally the darkest of the four products but a beautiful colour nonetheless. Unfortunately as nice as this colour is, it doesn't get as much use as I hoped it would as its a really drying formula of lipstick, so I'm on the hunt for a different version in a similar colour. Last but not least, I've included this beautiful red Apocalips in shade Big Bang as with it being a lip lacquer, its the most ideal product for summer as its not too heavy, it has an easy application wand and its much more moisturising than lipsticks tend to be. Definitely a summer summer staple if I ever did see one.

What are your current favourite red lip shades?

The Best Ways To Spend Easter Weekend.

Sunday, 5 April 2015

(photo)
Were now a third of the way through the year and luckily a nice four day bank holiday weekend is upon us. This weekend also involves the glorious holiday of Easter which is perfect for spending time with family, relaxing and eating your body weight in chocolate and beautifully baked treats. So, if sounds like the way you'd like to spend your break, here are some of the things you could be doing to make it just that bit more fun yet productive;

Spring clean
To many of you, this could be your worst nightmare but if like me, this doesn't actually sound that bad, get your tidying head on. Try tackling that wardrobe you've been fighting with for months or even get that hoover out and freshen up the floors of your home- you may even be surprised at how happy and refreshed it makes you feel.

Bake
Now this sounds like best idea and also the one with the best outcome right? Whether it be a nice simple fairy cake, or the most extravagant, bird nest decorated, triple layer cake, depending on your skills in this department, a nice bit of baking can leave you feeling relaxed and also with a sense of achievement and happiness.

Relax
We all have different ways to relax and if theres one thing you should do this weekend its wind down. Whether its reading a new book, taking a long bubble bath or even binge watching your favourite TV show with the comfiest blanket you can find- make sure you make some time for you.

Spend and splurge
I'm not saying spend your entire months wages on a pair of shoes you'll never wear, but use this weekend to reward yourself for all the hard work you do. The reward could be a new top for work or even that takeaway you've been craving. Go on- you've earnt it!

What are you doing this bank holiday weekend?

The Realities of Moving Out.

Friday, 3 April 2015

A few weeks in now and I think I'm finally settled in my new home. Im still on a job hunt and still have a couple of home type items to get, but other than that, I think its all done. I've never been too much of a 'home' type person; I've always strived to be independent and to look after myself, so when it came to moving out it literally was like all my hopes and dreams starting their journey. Having a place of your own can be amazing and carefree, but flying the nest for the first time also comes with times that are completely unglamorous and confusing and brings situations in which I'm sure every new homer can relate.

First Night.
You think on the first night you'll be eating a takeaway off a box like in films, when in reality, when is there even time to eat let alone a place around your mess to eat it?

Cleaning.
You may vow to never let the kitchen get into a state and to wash up your things as soon as you've used it but two days later you'll find yourself leaving it until theres three meals worth of plates and no cups left.

Days off.
Theres plenty of things to do or bits you need to get from the shops, but in reality we'd much rather spend the whole day in pyjama's binge watching our favourite show. You'll also realise that you don't have enough lounge clothes to see yourself though this lifestyle- five pairs is just not enough.

Food.
Who needs three meals a day when you can have one and have whatever the hell you want for the rest of the day with no questions asked? Who said coco pops were only for breakfast eh? But when you want that comforting roast dinner, prepare to spend three hours making your meal with at least two SOS calls to your mum.

Bills.
This is definitely the unglamorous bit. Bills can be the most confusing thing ever but we organised and it'll be fine. Write down rough costs of each bill from council tax to your internet with their due date and it pretty much sorts itself. However, the reality is that they will end taking a good part of your wages and sometimes you just might have to chose between heating your feet or dressing them shoes you spotted out shopping.

Exploring.
If you move into a new area like I have, expect to spend a couple of days panicking over how if you go out and get lost, how will I get back? When you do venture out however make sure you locate your nearest corner shop, you never know when you might need it.

Furniture.
There are two ways to tackle the empty house depression that you may get if you move into an unfurnished home; you can write a list and gradually pick up the bits you need over time, or you can do what we did and do a mass furniture and home-ware shop in one weekend and spend every night thereafter building flatpack furniture and becoming a pro. you'll learn early on too that your home will never look like the perfect homes you pin on Pinterest.

Family.
It becomes actually nice to see your parents and even if they do get on your nerves, you can the reassuring knowledge that you won't have to see them again for at least another three weeks. You'll also realise that inviting them over means you'll need to do the biggest spring clean to date to make them believe that you've got this self-sufficient life down.

What do you love about living out?

The Spring Beauty Wishlist.

Wednesday, 1 April 2015

Spring is the prime season for preparing your skin before the 'bare-all' season of Summer- eliminating those body blemishes and clearing up your skin for that perfect bronzed complexion that we've all been waiting for. The products I've picked for this post range from skincare to makeup to also hair products as I'm wanting to refresh my routine in all areas at the moment. Theres so many new products appearing recently so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do a bit of research into any new formulas or brands such as the Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream I love the look of, or even the amazingly packaged and highly anticipated Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara.

One area I really need to focus on improving is my ultimate body dislike-bache or back acne for those of you who aren't into shortening every label. It is one of those things that I just can't seem to shake even into my twenties so its about time I take to the web to discover some solutions or at least ways to lighten up them unsightly scars. From this I discovered a really interesting article (here) on a few products that might help such as the Korres Sensitive Sage and Salicylic Acid Regulating Gel and also the Seaweed Night Treatment, so Im excited to give them a go and fingers crossed they do the job.

There are so many aspects and sectors within beauty; theres skincare to haircare and also makeup and nail care. I love them all an unnormal amount but theres just something about makeup: I just love the colours and textures and sense of achievement that they can bring when you find that perfect coverage or shade for your skin. For this reason, much of this spring wish list is makeup based and for once, also includes a few tools for application as well such as this bargain buy U-Spicy Makeup Brush Set which is both beautiful and rated highly in many reviews. Another brush I desperate to try is the Face Perfecting Brush from bareMinerals as its hole in the centre for holding your foundations is such an simple yet clever technique for buffing your face and eliminating those streaks.

Last but not least, the makeup products I've placed on my wish list this season are mostly quite affordable options which is always a bonus. The complexion based products i'd love to try are the Brightening Serum Foundation as I've got on really well with serum foundations in the past and also the All In One Instablur Eye Concealer as those under-eye bags aren't going to cover themselves are they? From watching a few tutorials too, I'm beginning to come round to the benefits of Brow Gel so its also joined my wish list alongside the most beautiful quad Eyeshadow Palette I think Ive seen- tell me I'm wrong? Lastly, the staple of the season for me has to be nude nails, they look so elegant yet fresh and clean so for that reason, this Nail Polish finishes off this long yet spring ready wish list for me.

Have you tried any other these products that you'd recommend?
